Founded: 2005
Urban Sprouts founded its first garden at June Jordan School for Equity, which had replaced Luther Burbank Middle School (where Urban Sprouts first began). June Jordan’s emphasis on independent thinking, social justice and a format of small and unique classes has been the perfect setting for our largest garden to date. In the Fall of 2010, the garden more than tripled in size after a large remodel job on campus, that awarded us more green space to cultivate. This garden grows a variety of herbs, edibles and flowers and is home to Urban Sprouts' chickens. In the Spring 2011, thanks to a grant, we built our first ever 30 ft. greenhouse, that allows us to propagate our on starts and really utilize all our seed saving exercises.
